A Day of Saddness

Posted on 2013-10-21 by Patrick
On my way home from PT this morning I watched two cop cars come flying off of the 395 lights and sirens blazing.  In the remaining mile and a half or so to my home I watched another 6 come from both directions all turning down my street.  As I approached my intersection roughly a dozen more from both county and state Police force whizzed right by me.  A sickening feeling began to knot in my stomach and I said a silent prayer.
When I pulled into my parking spot I downloaded a police scanner app for my phone and started to listen.  There had been a shooting at the school 3 blocks from me.  I know the school, it is a middle school and it is on one of my routes that I run fairly often.

I sat there praying that nobody was hurt, that the shooter had not gotten away.  I waited.

The lives of everybody at this school have forever been changed.  I do not need to go into how this effects me, it doesn’t.  There are hundreds of students, parents, teachers, spouses, and children who are currently living in fear.  The thoughts of “not my child/husband/wife” the thoughts of “why me”.  It is terrifying, it is sickening it is maddening.

As it turns out the shooter has been neutralized.  Whether that means killed or apprehended  I don’t know.  I don’t care.  One would hope it is the former and not the latter, I don’t want to know his name, I don’t want to know why he did it.  There is no good reason to shoot up a school filled with innocent children.

When I get home I’m going to give my child hug, I will call my daughter and tell her I love her.  I will continue to pray for those families.

About Patrick

First and foremost, Patrick is a fallen being far from perfect in just about every way. Saved by Christ more than a decade ago, his life has been transformed. While there is more to Patrick than simply his redemption this must be placed up front because it is perhaps the most important brick in the foundation of this blog. Additional information about Patrick includes his home. He is a displaced native Minnesotan who has studied just about everything. He holds both a Bachelor of Science in Multi-Disciplinary Studies and an MBA with an additional emphasis on Public Relations, both from Liberty University.
